Meta is developing a new video editing app, Edits, which it aims to be as good as the popular CapCut of ByteDance. This follows after CapCut got removed from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store recently. This move left many creators without alternatives.

Meta’s social media platform, Threads, will be launching next month for iOS, and an Android version will follow shortly. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, Edits is designed to offer creators a suite of tools for producing high-quality videos directly on their phones. The app includes a high-quality camera, an inspiration tab, and a space to track ideas. With users able to share draft versions of their video with friends or collaborators, it makes working on projects easier.

Its most outstanding feature is that Edits is also integrated with Instagram. Users, after publishing videos on Instagram, gain access to insights for details about how their content performs on the platform and are suitable for creators looking to grow their audience and improve their content.

Mosseri said Edits is “more for creators than casual video makers.” This means the app suits those who want to create professional-quality content. This app has great features that make it perfect for Instagram. It helps creators easily make, edit, and track their videos on Meta.

Meta’s strategy with Edits is part of its efforts to respond as promptly as possible to how the digital content creation landscape and digital technology have evolved. India shut down TikTok in 2020, and Meta quickly came out with Instagram Reels. In the same way, Meta released Threads in 2023 as a rival to text-based sites like X (formerly Twitter). Meta is setting itself up to get producers who are looking for new editing tools with Edits.

Edits and CapCut are both great apps for changing videos on your phone, but they are not exactly the same. CapCut works on phones, computers, and the web, but Edits only works on phones. CapCut has more complicated tools like keyframes and speed curves, while Edits has a simpler set of tools that will be updated in the future. One of Edits’ best features is how well it works with Meta platforms. You can easily share content on Instagram and Facebook. You can also use Meta’s song library for your posts.

Even if CapCut comes back, the fact that its future isn’t clear makes now the perfect time for Meta to add Edits as an option. Creators who have faith in CapCut may switch to Edits because it works with Instagram and has more advanced editing tools.

Edits moves into a very crowded market as social media companies like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts are competing with the video creators. However, Edits has the upper hand due to its complete integration with Instagram. This service allows creators to not only make videos but track how well those videos are doing on Instagram. That could be a significant draw for influencers seeking an easy way to link content creation to audience engagement.

Meta has a large user base. Its ability to adapt quickly to market changes makes Edits a great new tool in Meta’s creative suite. The Edits app from Meta aims to help creators bring their visions to life. As digital content grows, this app offers the best tools for that purpose.
