OYO’s New Check-In Policy for Unmarried Couples: A Step Towards Responsible Hospitality?

OYO, one of the best hotel booking system in India recently modified its check in policy for couples who are single. Beginning in January 2025, even for online bookings, this regulation mandates unmarried couples show current evidence of their relationship upon check-in. Originally implemented in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, the project seeks to match local social sensitivities and offer a safer surroundings for different types of visitors.

The Policy in Particle Form

Under the new policies, partner hotels are free to reject or accept bookings depending on their discretion. The reflection of their feedback from Meerut as well as civil society organizations, who have requested OYO to not interfere with the staying of unmarried couples in hotels, was this policy amendment,” he added. The policy is applicable only to Meerut, but OYO has stated that it could expand to more locations based on feedback received.

This aims to reduce confusion and potential harassment. OYO confirmed that joining is still voluntary for hotel partners. They are also keeping a close eye on guest satisfaction before expanding further.
