

Renowned for his strong relationship with the late Ratan Tata, Shantanu Naidu has been hired at Tata Motors as the General Manager and Head of Strategic Initiatives Naidu revealed his relationship with the corporation in a moving LinkedIn post:
“I remember when my father used to walk home from the Tata Motors plant, in his white shirt and navy pants, and I would wait for him in the window. It comes full circle now.”
Since his father belonged to the Tata Motors family, this appointment marks a moving return to his origins.

ToggleOriginally trained as an engineer, Shantanu Naidu graduated in 2014 from Savitribai Phule Pune University with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. In 2016 he furthered his study with an MBA from Cornell University. He started working as Ratan Tata‘s assistant in 2018, which put him in public view.

Shantanu Naidu created reflective collars in 2014 to help stray dogs avoid nocturnal road accidents. Renowned animal lover Ratan Tata stumbled upon this initiative and guided the two close friends. Shantanu Naidu also started the Goodfellows initiative, which is meant to provide businesses to older Indian citizens.
Following Ratan Tata’s death on October 9, 2024, Naidu shared,
“The hole that this friendship has now left with me, I will spend the rest of my life trying to fill. Grief is the price to pay for love. Goodbye, my dear lighthouse.”
This statement captures the close friendship they had outside of their business engagement.
