Dr. Manmohan Singh, who was once Prime Minister, died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday, December 26, 2024. He was 92 years old. In the early afternoon, Singh, who was Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, passed out quickly at home. He was rushed to AIIMS’s emergency room. Even though everyone tried, they could not bring him back to life. At 9:51 PM, he was declared dead.

National Mourning Declared

In honor of the former Prime Minister, the Central government has declared seven days of state mourning across India, starting on December 26, 2024, and ending on January 1, 2025. During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India, and there will be no official entertainment. A state funeral will be accorded to Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Leaders across the political spectrum have extended their condolences.

Dr. Manmohan Singh has been appreciated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, and many other prominent people for his significant role in the economic changes in India and its diplomatic efforts worldwide. Modi called Singh a “visionary leader” and appreciated what he had done as an economist and as Prime Minister.

Dr. Manmohan Singh was the brain behind the architectural design of the Indian economic reforms.

The policies were implemented during his tenure as Prime Minister and have seen the transformation of the Indian economy. His humility, integrity, and wide knowledge of economics were characteristics of his leadership.

He was the first Sikh to occupy the office of Prime Minister and led the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for two consecutive terms.

The body of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has been placed at his Delhi residence for the public to pay their last respects. Thousands have gathered to pay homage to the late leader, symbolizing the impact he has left on the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay his tributes by visiting Singh’s residence.
