The case, which has captured the nation’s attention, now faces a new, tragic dimension as everyone awaits further details from the investigation.

Salman Khan Case Accused Dead in Police Station

In a recent incident that has caught widespread attention, Anuj Thapan, an accused in the case involving Bollywood actor Salman Khan, has died by suicide while in police custody. He passed away on May 1, 2024. He allegedly took his own life in the bathroom of the police cell on the first floor.  Thapan had been arrested along with another accused, Sonu Subhash Chander, on April 25.

The investigation into the firing incident outside Salman Khan’s residence is ongoing, and authorities are trying to unravel the entire conspiracy behind the shooting Thapan was one of the two individuals arrested for allegedly supplying weapons used in a shooting outside Salman Khan’s residence. The charges against him were serious, as he was linked to the supply of firearms that led to an attack near the actor’s home.

The Firing Incident at Salman Khan’s Residence

On a quiet morning on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 5 am, the peace of Mumbai’s Bandra neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Outside the Galaxy Apartments, the home of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, an alarming incident unfolded.  Two individuals on a motorcycle approached the building and fired a total of five shots. One of these bullets struck the balcony of the actor’s residence, a stark reminder of the violence that had occurred.

The actor and his family were inside, asleep, unaware of the danger that lurked outside their door. The assailants, after committing the act, quickly fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of questions and fear.  The Mumbai Police, upon being alerted, arrived swiftly with forensic teams to investigate the crime scene. They discovered bullet casings and used CCTV footage to track down the suspects. This brazen act was not just a random occurrence but appeared to be a well-planned attack.

The shooters had conducted a reconnaissance of Salman Khan’s residence three times before carrying out their plan.  They had even rented a room nearby to closely observe the actor’s movements and ensure the timing of their attack would have the maximum impact. The police worked diligently to piece together the events and apprehended the suspects in Gujarat, following a meticulous trail of evidence. The incident has since been linked to a larger criminal conspiracy, drawing attention to the underworld’s reach in the city.

How Were the Accused Caught?

The accused in the Salman Khan firing case were caught through a combination of police work and technology. Here’s how the events unfolded:

  • Initial Clues: After the firing incident, the Mumbai Police found the motorcycle used in the attack abandoned near Mount Mary Church, not far from Salman Khan’s residence. The bike was traced back to its owner in the Panvel area of Navi Mumbai, who revealed that he had sold it recently.
  • Reconnaissance: The police discovered that the accused had been loitering around Mumbai and its surrounding cities for some time. They had conducted reconnaissance outside Salman Khan’s residence four times to plan their escape.
  • Escape Route: After firing the shots, the accused abandoned the bike near the church, walked a distance, and took an autorickshaw to Bandra railway station. From there, they boarded a train to Santacruz station, alighted, and hired another auto-rickshaw to go further.
  • Technology and Informers: The Mumbai crime branch activated its network of informers and started tracking the phones of the two men. Their phones were not switched off, which aided the police. CCTV footage also helped the police officials to nab the culprits.
  • Arrest in Gujarat: The police were able to locate the two accused near a temple in Gujarat’s Kutch district. A police team reached the temple and apprehended the accused.

This coordinated effort by the Mumbai Police led to the successful capture of the individuals involved in the firing outside Salman Khan’s house.

The passing of Anuj Thapan, a suspect in the Salman Khan case, while in police custody, has brought a new layer of tragedy to an already complex situation.
